Pregnant? We’re Here For You.

You’re pregnant and feeling uncertain. You don’t have to go through this alone. There are options to consider and rights that you are entitled to when it comes to your medical care. No matter what you decide regarding the baby, you should know several important things.

Visit a Clinic First!

Pregnancy is a medical condition. It warrants treatment by a licensed medical professional, and for that reason, the most important thing you can do for your health is to visit a women’s health center before doing anything else.

Many women’s health clinics promise healthcare, but often at a high cost. Open Arms provides free and confidential early pregnancy care, along with various other women’s health services. It’s important to have all the information available when making a decision. Open Arms helps women and their partners by offering medical, scientific, and evidence-based information, enabling them to make informed choices about their pregnancy.

We Offer Free Ultrasounds

One of the most popular services we offer is a prenatal ultrasound. Other clinics charge anywhere from $250-$400 for this diagnostic procedure. Open Arms offers no-cost ultrasounds from as early as 5 weeks 6 days. Ultrasounds are important at the early stages of pregnancy to:

  • Confirm that the fetus is located within the uterus (not an ectopic pregnancy)
  • Determine approximate gestational age by measurements obtained
  • Detect a fetal heartbeat

Our limited, obstetric ultrasounds can provide diagnostic information that is vital to every woman experiencing a planned or unplanned pregnancy. For example, 30% of women miscarry before even knowing they’re pregnant. Home pregnancy tests can cause panic and confusion, but an ultrasound provides confirmation and information. A licensed medical doctor reviews all of our ultrasound results to ensure accuracy and quality care.

One risk identified by ultrasound is an ectopic pregnancy, which occurs when the embryo is not implanted inside the uterus. Many clinics that do not provide ultrasounds may overlook this condition. It is imperative that you receive an ultrasound if you are pregnant and considering abortion. Without an ultrasound, the location of the baby is unknown. In the case of an ectopic pregnancy, in which a chemical abortion would not terminate, complications from an attempted abortion could result in severe injury or even death to the mother.

Additionally, certain clinics charge women for an abortion after a false positive from a home pregnancy test – again – without an ultrasound. If there’s no baby in the uterus, there’s no medical procedure to bill for. No patient should pay for a service they aren’t getting.
